Hello, The situation in Japan does look somewhat grim, with major power outages across some part of the country. The recent tragedy that struck Japan has somewhat encouraged me to think about what sort of "preparations" I have made in response to potential natural disasters from a personal finance standpoint. I'm not really limiting myself to total disaster like the ongoing Japan earthquake/tsunami/nuclear-meltdown, but also milder stuff like a flash food that can be quite disruptive. I'm not considering "end of the world" scenarios (in which finance really become somewhat irrelevant) so that would be the limit of our small discussion here. In my reflections, I realized I haven't really given this much thought. From the "survival" standpoint I suppose I do have some canned and dry food lying around. From the "finance" standpoint, I do keep some cash in the house, as a power outage would mean that credit cards and ATM machines are going to be useless. Has anyone else have given this some thought? Perhaps those who were unfortunate enough to experience such events could give some pointers? Thanks I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
